ELIXIR is a pan European intergovernmental organization that brings together life science resources from across Europe. These resources include databases, software tools, training materials, cloud storage and supercomputers. The Nodes build on the strengths of the scientific communities of that country. Norway, for example, has leading research centers in marine biology, so ELIXIR Norway provides services focused on marine genomics and metagenomics.

ELIXIR Norway is coordinated by the University of Bergen and includes activities at the University of Oslo, UiT The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø, NTNU - Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences at Ås. Centre of bioinformatics is hosting the ELIXIR Norway node at UiT.

The main focus of the ELIXIR Norway node at SfB is to provide research based services towards marine microbial genomics and metagenomics. We provide bioinformatics training in microbial genomics and metagenomics, including gene prediction and functional assignment of microbial genomes, comparative genomics, transcriptomics, taxonomic classification and functional annotation of metagenomics samples.

Support offered

TA-users have access to office, administrative and logistic support and to the services provided by SfB, including basic training in use of bioinformatics tools and pipelines for microbial genomics and metagenomics analysis. UiT does not provide lodging, but restaurants, hotels and B&Bs are nearby. The Local liaison officer assists with lodging reservations.
